How can a Russian get higher education in Belarus in 2024?

Graduates of Belarusian universities receive not only a diploma recognized by the majority of European countries, but also excellent prospects both in the local labor market and outside the country. Prestige, high academic standards and accessibility of education attract thousands of Russian applicants to Belarusian higher education institutions every year.

How can a Russian become a student of a Belarusian university? MYUNIVER has great news for you! Russian citizens can get higher education in Belarus on the rights of citizens of this country. You can apply both for budget places and study for free, and for simplified paid forms. In the second case, payment is made at the standard rate, as well as for Belarusians.

So, according to the legislation of the Republic of Belarus, citizens of the states of the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan have the right to enroll in Belarusian universities on the conditions provided for:

1. citizens of the Republic of Belarus and apply for a budget place or paid form of education, based on the results of centralised testing (CT).

Unified State Examination

Important! Successful passing the Unified State Examination (USE) will not help to avoid the CT. The USE is not taken into account in Belarus. And centralised testing is compulsory for all applicants who want to get higher education in a Belarusian university on the rights of citizens of the Republic of Belarus.

However, passing the centralised test gives you the opportunity to enroll for free. If you pass the CT, you take part in the competition for a budgetary place in the university on an equal footing with Belarusians. And if you don't get enough points for free admission, the university can offer you the opportunity to study for a fee.

The deadlines for taking the CT are strictly defined by the legislation of the Republic of Belarus. In 2024, the dates of registration for testing were shifted to April. To get to the Central Test you must apply between April 9 and April 22 on the official website REGCT.RIKC.BY. Within the designated time frame, come to Belarus and take the centralized test together with everyone else.

The University independently establishes the list of CT subjects required for admission. There is a fee for passing the CT. In 2024, the cost is 9.9BYN (~280 rubles) per subject.

Please note, on the paid form of education prices will be the same as for citizens of Belarus. So, for example, according to myfin website the cost for a year of full tuition in Minsk universities starts from 746BYN (~21,200 rubles) for the correspondence format 2023/2024. This also applies to Russians entering as "foreign citizens".

2. Admission on the rights of foreign citizens and stateless persons. This option allows you to qualify for paid education based on the results of an interview, which establishes the level of proficiency in the language in which the educational process takes place. This means that you simply need to prove your conversational Russian language skills. It is not difficult for a native speaker to do this.

You do not need to pass the Centralized Test or present your USE results. Only the result of the interview is taken into account. The exceptions are medical and creative specialties, architecture and design. Here it is necessary to pass additional entrance exams in order to obtain higher education. Detailed information about the conditions is best found on the website of the particular institution of higher education.

The list of documents you will also need for enrollment:

1. passport,

2. school certificate with attachment,

3. birth certificate,

4. medical certificate,

5. HIV certificate.

Other advantages of this enrollment option:

  1. Russian citizens may pay in Russian rubles. The university charges the amount in the usual currency.
  2. The whole enrollment process can be completed in an online format. It is not necessary to spend time and money on traveling to Belarus.
  3. Guarantee of dormitory accommodation.
  4. Resolution of all issues through the international department.
  5. Diploma in Russian and English.

Let's summarize.

When enrolling in a Belarusian university, Russians are equal to Belarusian citizens.

That is, you can enroll on a budget, provided you successfully pass the CT, observing all the rules of registration and personal presence at the exam. Or use the privileges of the paid form and enter the university after passing the interview, which reveals the knowledge of spoken Russian language.
