A foreign woman wanted to become a student — a fake passport got in the way

In the morning of 13 September, when checking in for the flight ‘Istanbul-Minsk’ at Minsk National Airport, border guards detained a woman with a foreign passport of a Congolese citizen, which aroused suspicion. After a special check it was found out that the document was partially forged - the year of birth was changed from 1995 to 2001 on the page with the identification data.

As it turned out, the woman was travelling to Belarus to enter a higher educational institution.

At the moment she was detained and placed in the temporary detention centre of Minsk city executive committee until her identity is established. The foreigner faces a fine of up to 100 basic units ($1,250) for the attempt to illegally cross the border.

In addition, the use of forged documents is punishable by criminal liability - restriction of freedom for up to two years.
