Why?
Belarusian State University of Foreign Languages — sounds solid and is as clear as possible for foreign students. Now everything is honest: teach foreign languages — that is what it wrote.
The change has been officially confirmed by an order from the Ministry of Education, and on 8 August, the new name was entered into the state register. So, from the new academic year, students will study at a university with a new sign and a new, more meaningful name.
A brief history:
Until 1993, the university was called the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. From 1993 to 2025, it was known as MSLU. Over the years, it has become a recognisable brand among students not only in Belarus but also beyond its borders.
Now, it is known as BSUFL. It is easier to pronounce than it seems.
What does this mean for students?
Nothing changes for students: the same studies, the same teachers, the same classes at 8:15 a.m. Only the diploma will now have a ‘new look.’

So, if you dreamed of a diploma with the letters "MSLU" on it, you're 30 years too late.
