Brest State A.S. Pushkin University: new specialities and development prospects

Rector of BrSU Yury Golubev said that this year the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the university opened two new in-demand specialities. The microbiology programme is designed for four years of study, and applicants must pass Belarusian or Russian language, biology and chemistry to enter. Graduates will receive the qualification " Microbiologist".

The speciality "Country Studies and Translation" was also opened with a four and a half year programme of study. In order to enter the programme it is necessary to pass Belarusian or Russian language, geography and maths. Upon graduation, graduates will receive a triple qualification: geographer, teacher and translator.

BrSU is also considering the possibility of creating a competence centre for science education with a pedagogical bias. This project is intended to become an innovation on a national scale, as most of such centres are currently focused on engineering specialties. The new centre will contribute to early career guidance, professional development of teachers and the development of quality science education in general. The Rector emphasised: technological development is impossible without qualified teachers in these areas.
