BSATU was founded back in 1954 as the Belarusian Institute of Mechanization and Electrification of Agriculture. In 2000 the university acquired its recent name.
Since its foundation, BSATU trained more than 57 thousand specialists and more than 1100 international students.

More than 200 of BSATU's teachers have a scientific academic degree, there is one academician and 2 corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus,
BSTAU actively cooperates with over 90 educational and scientific institutions around the world.
The university offers its students a possibility to get a second higher education in economic or technical profile along with their general studies, to have a practical course in Germany and to get vocational education and acquire a profession (driver, mechanic, sports coach, media reporter, etc.)
